A rockin’ double bill at the Underground!
FOUR ON THE FLOOR GARAGE PUNK ROCK N ROLL
Founded in Maryland's Mountains in 2015, The Downstrokes bring a sonic avalanche to whatever stage they play: high octane garage punk. Their self-released first album New York Girl, fused Lower East Side energy with pop punk hooks. Their sophomore release invited listeners to Fall in Love with Punk Rock Again (Snubbed Records). 2020's Unsafe at Any Speed (Coffin Curse), found the band continuing to explore the boundaries of punk rock moving from the street punk anthemic "Lies That We Believed" to the call to action of "Toy Gun" to the more rogue folk of "Time Bomb."
A few pandemic singles paved the way for their new album This Close toe Vertigo (Coffin Curse/Allegedly Records), mastered by Mass Giorgini.
Next up is a split LP with their good friends The Prozacs coming out on River Monster Records in 2024.
The Downstrokes have played all over the Eastern US and the American Midwest, and they have been regulars at the Savage Mountain Punk Fest. They've played with Richie Ramone, The Queers, Huntingtons, Electric Frankenstein, The Undead, Reno Divorce, Suzi Moon, and more.
Ammonite is a trio from Washington D.C. bringing a little jangle and twang to an edgy 90s/00s sound. Formed by scene veterans Erin Frisby, Selena Benally, and Alyson Cína in late 2022. The band immediately began garnering attention for their expressive live shows, vocal harmonies, and tight songwriting.
Debuting on The National Museum for Women in the Arts "The Tea" program, Ammonite had a busy inaugural year that included the Fort Reno summer concert series, features of their demo recording on Bandcamp and Country Queer, charting in the top 40 for the year on AltQ radio, headlining Frederick Pride, playing Rockville Pride, and the sold out opening of The Rex Theater, as well as the opening night of Artomatic DC 2024. And sharing the stage with acts like Desert Sharks, Nicole Yun, Quiet Hollers, Twin Limb, and Ecstatic International.
Most recently, Ammonite contributed a track to Yesterday and Today: D.C. does Dischord, alongside Ted Leo, The Dismemberment Plan, Outerloop, and J Robbins.
Ammonite is currently recording and plans to release new music in 2024.
